Remaking a boring flower shop vase…

Standard boring vase that came with LOVELY flowers - which are now gone.

Seeing as how Mother’s Day was this past weekend – many of you may have received beautiful flowers in not-so-beautiful vases. I’ve had this flower store vase around the house for a couple of years now. It was very pretty – and served it’s purpose well but my house just isn’t decorated with lavender accents.

You can also find plenty of these vases at your average Goodwill or thrift store. If you need a vase – but don’t like the shade…never fear. Here is what you need to spice it up to really make a fun statement in your home.

  • Spray paint (I used Krylon’s)
  • Jute or fabric
  • Spray adhesive
  • glue gun
  • Raffia

I painted the vase inside and out. Just one coat worked great. Then, used a little spray adhesive and randomly wrapped some of the raffia around it.

Next – I started gluing, and twirling the jute onto a small piece of fabric (burlap).  in the shape of flower petals.

You can make this any size you want. A little dab of hot glue every so many loops.

Just popped my finished flower on my painted vase wrapped with a bit of raffia. Lovely. Oh - a little green button topped it off.

The finished vase is so CHEERY and looks great with the accent colors of my creative space. I stuck a couple of my paper flowers in there – but this will work perfectly well for fresh ones too.

Why, yes. That is my sweet family in that picture.
